It's often a mistake for a young writer to direct their own work. Fionn Donnelly proves this again with God, the Devil and me. There are some great ideas in the play, and mental health is an important topic, but it needs editing and the pace was deathly slow. We needed more spark and power from god and the devil to drive the comedy. Evelyn Lloyd was a delight when she brought her energy towards the end, but by then audience enthusiasm had been lost. And the lengthy coda… then another from the playwright just increased my willingness to embody the devil in writing my review.
