Creation are always energetic and imaginative and with this tight, fast paced production of Antony and Cleopatra they have done it again. The outdoor amphitheatre with its set of ruined columns was a perfect backdrop to the action and the sun setting on the denouement could not have been better designed.
Tom Peters gives an intense and powerful performance as Antony and I found myself living every second with him. Lizzie Hopley's Cleopatra was the centre of her own game, a performance within a performance and never more regal than when she stood before Caesar barefoot and without her iconic black wig. The rest of the cast provided admirable support each taking on several characters, Dominic Brewer's young, idealistic Caesar was a brilliant contrast to the battle worn Antony, and we were treated to a nicely camp Pompey by James Burton. Richard Kidd is always a joy and his Enobarbus died rather brilliantly! And of course, no production is complete without an eunuch in a wedge heel!
In the end we are left with an intelligent and memorable production, bits are still playing over in my mind, and for that I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone involved for a very enjoyable evening.
