Song of the Goat Theatre present a shocking, brutal interpretation of the story of Titus Andronicus, keeping the horror of rape, amputation and sons fed to their mother, but showing the cruelty of both Rome and the Goths, concluding that war will always end in tragedy. It sounds fantastic with folk instruments and an opera-like chorus. The script appears projected on a backstage screen. Mainly in black, flashes of colour and seeming ritual choreography make it arresting visually. Sadly, the character repeatedly referred to as black is played by a white performer. The politics and relationships were a little confusing, but this is a memorable show.
