A Cavalier for Milady

Thie world premiere productionm started life at the Cock Tavern as part of a double bill with I Never Get Dressed Till After Dark on Sundays but when that theatre was forced to close both productions went into limbo. Fortunately, Gene David Kirk was able to arrange to bring A Cavalier for Milady to the Jermyn Street Theatre, where he is Artistic Director, and we should all be grateful that he did.

Gene David Kirk has already proved himself as a master of Tennessee Williams' stragely strange side with his masterful production of The Two Character Play, now on its way to the Tennessee Williams  Festival then a spell off-Broadway, but if anything Cavalier is an even more curious entity. Originally a very short play, Gene has been able to bring it up to around 50 minutes though the introduction of an extended sequence based on the Nijinsky/Diaghilev L'apres Midi d'un faune (choreographed for this production by Philip Goudal) a device which greatly enhances the audience experience.

This is a trully memorable show on so many levels and it is to be hoped that the rumoured re-location of the original double bill will come about and more people will get the opportunity to see these complex, challenging, disturbing and ultimately delightful pieces.
